National Parks of Sri Lanka

With Mihintale being declared a wildlife Sanctuary in the year 247 BC, Sri Lanka is indeed the world’s first  nation in the to initiate the concept.
Today there are 15 declared National Parks preserved under the administration of the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka. The concern and commitment of the Sri Lankan leaders and subjects towards preserving nature has resulted in allocating approximately 8% of the land area to natural Flora and Fauna.


The National Parks of Sri Lanka are as listed below.

3. Gal Oya National Park Uva Eastern Province
4. Horton Plains National Park Central Province
5. Kaudulla National Park North Central Province
6. Lahugala Kithulana National Park Eastern Province
